Travis Mayer, a Blonyx athlete, is headed to the 2013 ******** Games in Carson, CA after a kick ass performance and 2nd place finish at the South East Regionals. This will be Mayer's first time appearing at the Games as a competitor and I can't speak for everyone else but I know I'm pretty stoked to see what he can do. Mayer is undoubtedly an incredible athlete AND he also happens to have the same name as my older brother (i.e. even if he wasn't one of our sponsored athletes I'd still be cheering for him) .
With less than two weeks left before the big day Mayer is obviously pretty busy ensuring that he is as physically and mentally prepared as possible; but he still made time to answer a couple of questions for me (13 Questions to be exact)
Ok first things first, just some basic Questions
1. How long have you been doing ******** for?
"I have been ********ting for 3 years coming up in October"
2 So What got you started doing ********? Was it a friend, family member, crosstraining for another sport?
I was always interested in fitness and training, that interest inspired me to get certified as a personal trainer which, in turn, led to a job at LA Fitness. One day one of my best friends, who also worked there, started talking to me about ********. He was like, “Check out these videos. You should give it a try.”
3. Do you remember your first workout?
Yep. After spending all day watching videos of Chris Spealler & Miko Salo doing these intense workouts I decided I to give it a shot and I thought "Why Not Fran?. I did it with 115 lbs and did strict pull-ups; from there I fell in love with ******** and haven't stopped since.
So Fran was your first workout? Wow thats intense, I did my first Fran in over 12 minutes...and I can't remember but I may have even used a band...
4. Did ever imagine, when you first got going with ********, that you would end up getting to the level you are at now?
From the first day I began ******** I knew I always wanted to be on the Elite level and competing against the best in the sport, and now that I'm there. It's a dream come true. I knew if I put in the hard work day in and out I could reach my goal! Now really looking forward to Carson.
Awesome, ok a couple more questions for you...
5. How long ago did you start taking Blonyx, and what was the most noticeable thing you found
About Blonyx 4-5 months ago, and the most noticeable change I saw was in my recovery time. I could go through 8 workouts in a weekend and usually feel beat up, but after taking Blonyx I felt great after each workout so the next day I could go into the gym knowing I can give it 120%.
6. If you could choose 1 workout to show up at the games (one you think you’d really excel at) what would it be
If I could pick, I would love to do a triple “Helen” or just a long run! I really enjoy long metcons and running.
7. What’s your Goat? Or at least a skill you don’t like?
I’ve focused a lot on my goat this year and it would have to be movements overhead, but going into the Games I believe I am mentally and physically ready for anything.
8. What, so far, is your favorite ******** Moment?
When I finished the final workout at regional’s and went to the back not knowing yet if I officially made it to the Games until Max El-Hag came over to me and said, “Dude, you did it!” I was speechless. I didn’t know what to do or say, I was just in shock. It was a dream come true! I want to say how grateful I am to have a Coach like Max. He has helped me get to where I am today and I couldn’t be more thankful!
9. Do you have an embarrassing thing youv’e done/had happen to you in training that you’re willing to share?
In my first ever ******** competition, I was closed lined by a rope and did a complete back flip. I was supposed to be running under it but lifted my body up to fast and boom closed lined. HA
10. Do you have any random skils, or things you can do that people might not know about you?
I can ride a unicycle pretty well. I’ve had one since I was about 14.
11. Words to Live/Train By?
“Get comfortable being Uncomfortable”
12. Do you eat paleo?
I do not eat paleo, but I try to eat as clean as possible
13. Do you have a cheat food?
My favourite cheat food would have to be cookie, cake or sweets. Every night I have one or the other. I have learned that is what works best for me.
Sounds like my kind of cheat food! Thanks again for taking the time to answer my questions, good luck with training/getting ready for the games and the Blonyx team will be cheering you on from the stands.
