Before Emily started CrossFit, she played NCAA and CIS basketball throughout college, then focused on rowing with the University of Western Ontario while she earned her masters degree in journalism. In 2010 Emily made the trip to Carson with her team from CrossFit Vancouver, the first CrossFit affiliate outside of the US. At the end of 2010, she ruptured her achilles tendon, but after six months on the mend, made it to the Games with her team a second time in 2011. In 2012, she missed Games qualification by one spot, and had to sit out in 2013 due to a back injury. She finally earned herself a ticket to Carson as an individual in 2014.
Currently Emily is a coach at CrossFit Vancouver and has been contributing regularly for The CrossFit Journal since 2011, as well as freelance writing for companies such as Ript skin and Kill Cliff . Check out her CrossFit Journal article, "Emotions in Motion" about the mental and emotional pressures that go along with being a Games athlete.
